Vanitas is a genre of art which comes from the 1600,Dutch painters used objects rich in morbid symbolism to remind the viewer of the transience of life. A skull is usually featured along with dying flowers, candles, and a mirror which is a symbol of vanity. The vanitias is usually a complicated painting, but I wanted to modernize an old idea, this one is simple and straight forward; a bear skull, a timepiece and a blue morph butterfly, done in a tromp ole” style.
