The first coat of gesso has been applied. With rabbits glue I plan to apply netting for the encaustic wax to stay on the form and later for scales.
I had my rabbit glue ready, but my dog ate it. Benson does look a little green around the gills. Silly Labs they will eat anything! He must have thought it was porridge, thank God it's organic.
Day by day, step by step, Mr. Silver Salmon is going to be simply marvelous, a natural beauty at 50.
Well got to run darlings, I've got so much to do.
Chiao for now xx

your dog ate the glue? ouch!
so you gesso first, then apply some fabric netting, then encaustic? wow, what a project! Since these are for public display, are you getting paid?
Yes, Robin the glue is made from hoves and skin and didn't seem to affect the dog, however gluing on the netting didn't work, my idea was to have a rough surface for the wax to adhere to but it was a mess, I think the fiberglass form is enough. As you can tell I am flying by the seat of my pants.
They gave me a stippens for $500.00.If this goes well I see myself doing 100's of encaustic fish.
hmmm - will the encaustic stick to fiberglass? I know plastic and acrylic don't work with encaustic at all. I'm curious to see how this all turns out. It's quite a big fish isn't it!
The fiberglass form has some teeth to the finish and I roughed it up with coarse sandpaper. Fiberglass will not melt like plastic or acrylic (I think). However, the first coat of wax went on beautifully. The fish is 36" long one of the smaller forms.
